How often do you find yourself trying to multi-task at work? Some might simply eat lunch while calculating expense reports, but others are slightly more dexterous. Most people who don’t focus on the tasks at hand end up not doing their jobs well, however, with planning, you can cross off tasks on both your work list and your home list simultaneously. Below, we’ve got three examples of ways you can save time so that when the clock strikes 5:00, you’re truly a free bird!
- Schedule Conference Calls for Your Commute: Use the speakerphone or your car’s stereo system so that you can keep your eyes and hands on the road. If you have longer calls that don’t require having a computer or notes in front of you, this can be a fantastic way to save and repurpose even 15 minutes of your day. Just remember safety first.
- Do Your Laundry While You’re At Work: When you use laundry pickup and delivery services, your laundry can be handled by professionals while you’re busy at your desk. You can even manage your order from your laptop or cell phone. This alone will save you about 9 hours a week, give or take.
- Don’t Forget, Write It Down: Keep a notebook or pad by your desk to write down all the random thoughts that come into your head. “Bring cookies to drop off tomorrow,” or “Call Jane Doe about Property Showing,” or “Start next story with a description of mountains at night…” Random thoughts can be good thoughts, it would be a shame to waste them.
What are some other things you like to do during the 9 to 5? The most hard core probably use the treadmill and update Excel at the same time. If you’re lucky enough to be that much of a wonder (wo)man, then more power to you. The rest of us are just happy our socks are getting folded.
